For the second time this summer, National Beef Packing is recalling tens of thousands of pounds of ground beef on the concern of E. coli contamination. This time, the company is voluntarily recalling 50,100 pounds of ground beef in its NatureSource Natural Beef, Naturewell Natural Beef and National Beef ground beef product lines.

According to the company, the recall is due to one 10-pound chub of ground beef testing positive for E. coli O157:H7. There have been no reported illnesses related to the product.

This recall is voluntary, and there have been no reported illnesses related to the recall. The possibly-affected ground beef was produced on July 18, 2013, with a use by/freeze by date of Aug. 7, 2013. It was originally shipped in clear, 10-pound chubs to a limited number of retailers and wholesale and food service distributors in approximately 70-pound boxes. The problem was discovered through routine Food Safety and Inspection Service monitoring which confirmed a positive result for E. coli O157:H7. In June, the company recalled over 22,000 pounds of ground beef for a similar E. coli scare. — WLJ
