California/Nevada Polled Hereford Association honors Milton Costa
The Hereford breed has lost a great friend with the passing, May 9, 2011, of Milton Costa, Circle C Ranch, Nampa, ID. Milton was 66 years of age and is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and sons Tyler, Sean and Brian.
For many years Milton raised Hereford cattle in Paso Robles, CA, and later in Midvale, ID. In addition, Milton ran a very successful auctioneering business, Central Coast Auctions.
In 1989 Milton entered a new and successful chapter in his life. For the next ten years he would serve as President of the California/ Nevada Polled Hereford Association. At the time, CN-
PHA was relatively inactive and membership was sparse.
Through his visionary leadership and bold, innovative ideas, Milton breathed new life into the association and launched projects and events that were enormously successful. Thanks to Milton, CN- PHA has evolved into one of the most progressive and successful state breed associations in America.
In an effort to honor Milton, CNPHA will be paying him two special tributes. First, a “Milton Costa Scholarship Fund” has been established, to provide financial assistance to youngsters pursuing an ag education. Anyone wishing to donate to this fund should make their checks payable to CNPHA, and mail to 8500 Rock Springs Road, Penryn, CA, 95663.
The other tribute to Milton is to take place July 20 at the prestigious California State Fair in Sacramento, CA. The Hereford Show will be dedicated to Milton. Everyone is welcome to attend.
This will be a grand opportunity to salute “the man of the day: Mr. Milton Costa.”
