MIDLAND BULL TEST RESULTS

The 2009-2010 Midland Bull Test has 1,100 bulls on test, comprised of 12 breeds. The top performing bulls of each breed will sell April 7-9, 2010 at the bull test station, Columbus, MT. Wednesday, April 7, we will sell Salers, Gelbvieh, Charolais and Simmental. Red Angus, South Devon, Murray Grey, Hereford and Braunvieh bulls will sell on Thursday, April 8. All Angus bulls will then sell on Friday, April 9. The final weights for the bulls in the first efficiency group were taken February 6 and 7. Bulls in the second efficiency group were weighed off test March 6 and 7. The Angus, Red Angus, and Salers winners are split into two groups: Green Tag (low actual birth weight, 84 l and under and 2.0 and under BW EPD for Angus and Salers while Red Angus are 0.8 and under BW EPD) and White or Yellow Tag (over 84 lbs. actual birthweight or over 2.0 BW EPD for Salers and Angus while Red Angus is over 0.8). The top ADG (average daily gain) and WDA(weight per day of age) bulls within each respective breed are listed below. The top performing sire groups (three bulls by the same sire consigned by the same breeder) are also identified.

ANGUS: The top 420 Angus bulls consigned to Midland have an ADG of 3.32 (Green Tag) and 3.34 (White Tag), and WDA of 3.14 (Green Tag) and 3.25 (White Tag) on the Final Report. The Green Tag winners are split according to a 2.0 BW EPD & 84 lb. BW & under, while the White Tag winners were over a 2.0 BW EPD or over 84 lbs. actual birth weight. Angus ADG Group 1—Green Tag: Leading the way in the ADG race for the Green Tag Angus bulls Group 1 is a tie between Lot 330; a son of HARB Pendleton 765 JH that posts EPDs of BW -0.6 WW 58 M 25 YW 92, consigned by Lakeview Cattle Co., American Falls, ID, and lot 282, a son of CAR Efficient that possesses EPDs of BW 0.1 WW 50 M 25 YW 96 consigned by Rally Farms, Millbrook, NY, both with an ADG Ratio of 131. Second place goes to Lot 114; a son of ALC Nobleman N01N, consigned by Packard Angus, Brownsville, OR. This bull posted an ADG ratio of 126 and has EPDs of BW 1.1 WW 58 M 19 YW 119 as well as a RFI value of -2.67. In third place, another consignment by Packard Angus, lot 112, sired by Packard in Focus 137, with an ADG ratio of 125. Lot 112 has EPDs of BW 0.7 WW 49 M 25 YW 90. Angus ADG Group 1—White Tag: Topping the ADG race for the White Tag Angus bulls Group 1 is Lot 249; a son of Daveys 008-004-642, consigned by Wright Way Angus, St. John, WA, with an ADG ratio of 140. Lot 249 has an impressive RFI as well with a value of -3.19. Second place goes to Lot 324; a son of Connealy Lead On that has EPDs of BW 2.7 WW 40 M 23 YW 75, consigned by Dutch Flat Angus, Pomeroy, WA. This bull posted an ADG ratio of 135. In third place, another consignment from Dutch Flat, lot 327 with an ADG ratio of 128 sired by B/R New Frontier 095 that has EPDs of BW 3.6 WW54 N 24 YW 96. Angus ADG Group 2—Green Tag: front for ADG Green Tag Angus bulls Group 2 is Lot 378; a son of CRA Bextor 872 5205 608, consigned by Ken Hartzell, Mineral Point, WI, with an ADG ratio of 131. Lot 378 posts EPDs of BW 0.9 WW 49 M 30 YW 90. Second place goes to Lot 489; a son of Basin Payweight 1075S, consigned by Sunny Okanogan Angus, Omak, WA. This bull posted an ADG ratio of 130 and has EPDs of BW 1.9 WW 63 M 27 YW 104. In third place, with an ADG ratio of 129 is Lot 440. Lot 440 is sired by Mytty In Focus with EPDs of BW -1.3 WW 57 M 21 YW 101 and is consigned by Flat Mountain Ranch, Menahga, MN. Angus ADG Group 1—White Tag: Garnering top honors for ADG in the White Tag Angus bulls Group 2 is Lot 20; a son of AAR Really Windy 1205, consigned by Mydland Angus Ranch, Joliet, MT, with an ADG ratio of 141 along with EPDs of BW 3.0 WW 42 M 23 YW 76. Second and third place goes to consignments from Flat Mountain Ranch, Menahga, MN. In second, Lot 441 is a son of SS Objective T510 0T26, with an ADG ratio of 131 as well as EPDs of BW 2.3 WW 58 M 23 YW 105.Third goes to Lot 443 is a son of Big Rok Tradition 407. This bull posted an ADG ratio of 127 and has EPDs of BW 5.3 WW 34 M 17 YW 67. Also tied for third place is Lot 359. Lot 359 is sired by Connealy Lead On and consigned by 5K Farms of Elk, WA. Angus WDA Group 1—Green Tag: Heading up the Angus WDA Division for the Group 1 Green Tags is a tie between Lots 114 and 229 both posting of 3.56 pounds per day. Lot 114 is a son of ALC Nobleman N01N consigned by Packard Angus, Brownsville, OR, and has EPDs of BW 1.1 WW 58 M 19 YW 107 along with an RFI of -2.67. Angus Sire Groups—ADG: Angus ADG sire group leaders are sons of AAR Really Windy 1205. Lots 18, 19, and 20 posted an average ADG of 3.85 and are owned by Mydland Angus Ranch, Joliet, MT. Second place honors went to Willer Timber Ridge, Greencastle, IN, with an average ADG of 3.82. Lots 76, 77, and 79 are sons of Connealy Onward. 7X Ranches of Lingle, WY, consigned the third place ADG sire group. Lots 50, 53, and 55 had an ADG of 3.81 and were sired by DCC Rito Prime 1I5. Angus Sire Groups—WDA: Competition for the Angus WDA sire group leader spots is steep with only 0.16 pounds separating the top five sire groups. First place goes to Harrison Angus Ranch of Boyd, MT. These sons of Connealy All Around are Lots 162, 164 and 165 who had an average WDA of 3.46. Second place goes to Lots 58, 59, and 60. Consigned by Pioneer Angus Ranch, Hay, WA, these sons of Basin Yellowstone R178 put up a 3.41 WDA. Lots 351, 353, and 357, earning third place, are consigned by Tomsheck D & L, Oilmont, MT. The Efficiency NFI sired bulls are posting a WDA of 3.40.

This strong set of thick deep bodied bulls will sell on April 7 at the Midland sale facilities. Salers ADG— Green Tag: Leading the way in the Green Tag Salers bull in the ADG race is Lot 1155, a son of NJF Top Level 41T consigned by Effertz Key Ranch of Velva, ND with this black, polled bull that posted an ADG Ratio of 119 along with EPDs of BW -0.6 WW 46 M 16 YW 91.
