Cal Poly Bull Test now accepting entries
Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA, is now accepting entries for their 52nd Annual Cal Poly Bull Test. Last year’s test consisted of 271 bulls from top seedstock producers in the West and 103 bulls qualified for the sale with an average price of $2,568. This year’s delivery dates for bulls are May 9 and 10 at Cal Poly’s Beef Center. Entry fee of $60 per bull is required to reserve a spot on the 2008 test. Bulls must be born between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31, 2008, weaned at least three weeks prior to delivery, and vaccinated for clostridial and respiratory diseases. Again this year, all bulls entered must be delivered with a negative PI-BVD laboratory test.
Bulls will start test on May 24 and progress reports will be recorded every 28 days and conclude with the final test weight occurring on Aug. 30. To qualify for sale, bulls must index in the top 1/2 of their respective breed group, based on their test index, which is calculated from their average daily gain and adjusted yearling weight at the conclusion of the 100-day test. This year’s sale will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4.
