Picattos recognized as Red Angus Personality of the Year

John and Jane Picatto of Spring Valley, IL, were recognized as the 2008 Red Angus Personality of the Year at the 2008 National Red Angus Convention in Cheyenne, WY. Director Esther Fischer of Harlowton, MT, presented the award.

The Picattos have a remarkable 31-year-continuous-attendance record at Red Angus conventions and have documented the changes over the years through candid photos of each convention.

“I know they have taken a lot of pictures and have the albums to prove it,” said Fischer. Picattos have been involved with the Illinois Red Angus Association and John served as a director for the Red Angus Association of America from 1986 to 1988. They currently run a small herd of registered Red Angus cattle that they enjoy sharing with their grandchildren.

Their son, John Jr., served as the first president of the Junior Red Angus Association and remains involved in the operation. — WLJ
