Limousin herdsman’s award goes to Schilling

Each year, Limousin exhibitors at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, CO, select one of their colleagues to receive the Herdsman of the Year award.

Chance Schilling of Schilling Cattle, Edson, KS, received this year’s recognition in the form of a commemorative watch. Kent Andersen, Ph.D., executive vice president of the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF), and Kate Maher, NALF director of activities and services, made the presentation Jan. 13 in the NWSS Stadium Arena just before the naming of the grand champion Limousin female.

This year’s other nominees were Dawn Berry, Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, CO; Jeff Berry, DJ Limousin, Port Orchard, WA; Ray Cope, Circle L Limousin and Land Co., Burbank, OH; Kevin Counsil, Counsil Family Limousin, Madisonville, TX; Brian Deatsman, Sennett Cattle Co., Waynetown, IN; Kyle Fleener, Heart Felt Farms, Gettysburg, PA; Carl Griffiths, 3G Ranch, Kendallville, IN; Cori Harrison, Little Mackinaw Cattle Co., Minier, IL; and Dan Kelly, Express Ranches, Yukon, OK. — WLJ
