Bernalillo County Extension hosts livestock nutrition program

The key to a successful 4-H livestock project in the show ring begins now in the spring with the selection of the animal, learning the proper nutritional requirements, and learning how to manage the animal while it grows.

New Mexico State University’s Bernalillo County Extension Service will host an educational seminar for 4-H and FFA members regarding the selection, management and nutrition of their show animals. The hour-long seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Bernalillo County 4-H Center, 1510 Menaul NW in Albuquerque, NM.

“Representatives of Ranch-Way Feed and Moor- Man’s Feed will talk about the nutrition management for project animals, specifically goats, pigs and sheep,” said Elliot Sachse, Bernalillo County 4-H agent. “They will also cover points for selecting animals since the members will be selecting their livestock projects soon.” The free event is open to all 4-H and FFA members.

Sponsors Hitch N’ Post Feed and Supply of Tijeras and Horseman’s Feed and Supply of Albuquerque will provide pizza for dinner and door prizes. For more information, contact Sachse at 505/243-1386. — WLJ
