Live cattle futures took the lead in last week’s fed cattle trade with the April contract advancing over $6 to close at $135.60 and the June live cattle contract rising to $121.52, still a $14 discount as the April contract expired last Friday. No doubt cattle feeders have been aggressive sellers and will continue to be.

Futures for both live and feeder cattle saw triple-digit losses in late-week trade, while the beef cutout and cash feeders improved. Cash trade in the fed cattle markets last Thursday remained slow, although some business had been completed in Colorado at $83.50, steady to 50 cents higher than the previous week.
