Cattle inventory numbers fall more than expected

Cattle inventory numbers released at the end of January showed a continued contraction in the U.S. herd. Analysts had predicted a significant decline, but were surprised by a bigger than expected drop in numbers, which USDAs National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) said were down 2 percent from the previous year at 94.
