AMI challenges California's downer ban
The American Meat Institute (AMI) filed a challenge to Californias ban on the slaughter of nonambulatory livestock on Dec. 24. The lawsuit expands on one filed by the National Meat Association (NMA). AMI is seeking to prevent the enforcement of the states current ban on the slaughter of any downer animals by federally inspected plants in the state.
