Herd retirements will send 61,078 dairy cattle to packers in late January 2009

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) announced last week the results of 2008’s second dairy buyout. According to CWT, the coop has accepted retirement bids from 184 U.S. dairies, amounting to 61,078 cows, which will reduce annual milk production by approximately 1.
